Quirky pet-portrait artist Ginny has fallen for dependable nine-to-fiver Jeff. Though she and her daughter, Harri, were cozy in their Queens apartment, Ginny agrees to move into Jeff's suburban New Jersey neighborhood and is suddenly navigating a world of parent-teacher fundraisers, power walking, and pushy socialites. Though she wants to be true to herself, being unique begins to have devastating consequences for her preteen daughter. For Harri's sake, can Ginny learn to navigate this new social stratum? Does she even want to? Roe's debut work is a character-driven domestic fiction that is heartwarming and humorous. Narrator Emma Love's tone varies from sardonic to sympathetic, giving the listening experience a well-rounded and relatable air. The leading lady is likable, and the supporting characters are complex. This engaging narrative will resonate with anyone who has experienced the struggles that come with friendships and fitting in. VERDICT This audio will appeal to listeners seeking an amusing fish-out-of-water narrative about relationships and resilience, equal parts laughs and life lessons.
