Overview

Webster Harmon has a gift—he can see spirits and communicate with them. He lives in a group home and the woman who runs it makes his life difficult. Tandy runs the group home for her own personal gain, with no care about the teens she houses. If it wasn't for Beth, Webster would leave, even if it meant being on the street.

Whenever she wants to get even with Webster, Tandy uses her position to have him sent to the psychiatric unit. After celebrating his seventeenth birthday in the hospital, Webster meets Reggae on his way back to Tandy's place. Reggae's been homeless since his uncle died and Webster brings him along.

On returning to the house, Webster finds Beth terrified because Tandy is sending her for a trial with a family. Beth has a bad feeling about the man who came to meet her and the way he leered at her. The last person Tandy sent for a trial with a family was Angie, and she ended dying on the street after things didn't work out.

Webster is determined to keep Beth safe. When the spirits reveal Tandy's secrets, Webster decides to make his move to get all three of them out of there and to a better life—even if it means using his gift to break the rules.
