About the Author

In 1975 Lana, Anne, Jane and I were in our 20’s, married to soldiers who were stationed in the same company in Germany. As military wives do, we followed them there and because of that, we found our way into each other’s lives. It was the beginning of an ever-lasting friendship. Since then we have stood soul to soul even when we were separated by miles and even years.

Children have been raised, marriages have failed and great loves have been found. All of us have changed and grown and found our strengths and reached past our weaknesses. We are now at a pinnacle of life, able to look back over our histories and to marvel at all that has happened and whom we have become and to look toward the future with eagerness and confidence.

Two years ago as we were enjoying each other’s company at our annual reunion in Stillwater, MN, Lana and I decided to write about our friendship and our lives as military wives, not because our lives are noteworthy, but more because they aren’t. Anyone who has ever been a military dependent will find something in our stories that speaks to them.

Any woman who has ever been a wife or mother will find herself somewhere in our book. Anyone who has ever felt insecure, under-valued or overwhelmed will identify. And of course everyone who has known a great and lasting friendship will understand the enormity of that relationship. If you have that kind of friendship, you are blessed. If you don’t, keep looking.

I am not sure I would be the woman I am today, without these women in my life and without the others who are my great friends. I am sure I would not be able to enjoy life without the lessons we learned together.
