Overview

A robed figure sat before a crystal, watching its many facets. The crystal was roughly two spans in diameter; the figure leaned forward and stared into the brilliant light emanating from the stone. Each facet bore a different image, creating an indistinct chiaroscuro of moving subjects. Gnarled hands emerged from long, flowing sleeves and grasped the crystal ball. Fingers coiled around the smooth surface of the metal and turned it slightly clockwise.

About the Author

James Elliott “Jim” White was born in Birmingham, Alabama. He graduated from Susan Moore High School in 1987. During his senior year, he was a member of the National Honor Society and participated in the Senior Bowl team. That year, one of his submitted poems won first place honors in the school poetry contest. Jim was voted “Most Intellectual” by his classmates and received the Science Award and the Danforth “I Dare You” Award at graduation. He always displayed a love for books, a unique intellect, a deep sarcastic wit, and a natural curiosity from an early age. His interests were not limited to the printed word but extended to the natural world around him.
