This sweet romance from Child (following The Ex Upstairs) reunites Jack Colton and Serena Carey years after Jack left to restore his family's legacy. He's back in town and immediately drawn again to Serena, now a single mother working in her family's business. The attraction is strong, but Serena wants to keep her distance to protect her daughter from being hurt. Strong side characters provide ample opportunity for the protagonists to discuss feelings in a mature manner; readers looking for adult characters who act responsibly will be glad to find them here. The Carey family dynamics are a highlight; despite limited page time they are all fully formed characters. Serena's desire to protect herself and define herself as someone new will resonate with many readers, while Jack's understanding of how she's changed makes him an even more attractive hero. VERDICT The chemistry is strong, and the willingness of characters to set and respect boundaries makes the book even better.
