Overview

Saz has been hired by a mystery employer, the Wavewalker, to investigate the activities of Dr Maxwell North, an internationally acclaimed therapist, healer and guru. She starts by experiencing 'The Process' at a meeting in London, then insinuates herself into North's life and home, not realising the extent to which North will go to protect the dark secrets of his past.

Starting in '70s San Francisco, then crashing into her own '90s London life, the investigation propels Saz into dangerous territory and a highly combustible conclusion.

About the Author

Stella Duffy has written thirteen novels published in fifteen languages, over fifty short stories, and ten plays. She has twice won Stonewall Writer of the Year and twice won the CWA Short Story Dagger. She adapted her novel State of Happiness for film with Zentropa/Fiesta, and HBO have optioned her Theodora novels for a TV mini-series. Her story collection, Everything is Moving, Everything is Joined, and her Doctor Who novella Anti-Hero were published in 2014.
Stella is also a theatre-maker; Associate Artist with Improbable, Artistic Director of Shaky Isles Theatre, founder of The Chaosbaby Project. She is the Co-Director of Fun Palaces, the campaign for greater engagement for all - in ALL culture.

The arrival of a newspaper clipping and a pile of money in a detective's morning mail gets this second mystery featuring likable lesbian detective Saz Martin off to a wobbly start, as her anonymous client fails to tell the eager detective what, exactly, it is she should look for and where she should send her findings. In this sequel to Duffy's Calendar Girl, Saz (lest you forget her sexual orientation, there's a sex scene in nearly every chapter) is on the case of the charming-but-evil guru Max North. North is ruthlessly determined to see his pop-psychiatry take over the world, but Saz, who peppily ingratiates herself into his work and home life, will see about that. Against a backdrop of his cult, her gorgeous lover and a series of gruesome murders disguised as suicides, there is no question who will prevail. Whodunit is plenty obvious and the anonymous client is sussed out early on, but descriptions of 1970s hippie San Francisco, 1990s cozy lesbian domesticity and two decades of power and murder are likely to keep readers riveted nonetheless.
