War and Peace
War and Peace delineates in graphic detail events surrounding the French invasion of Russia, and the impact of the Napoleonic era on Tsarist society, as seen through the eyes of five Russian aristocratic families. The novel begins in the year 1805 during the reign of Tsar Alexander I and leads up to the 1812 invasion by Napoleon. The fortunes of the Rostovs and the Bolkonskys, of Pierre, Natasha, and Andrei, are intimately connected with the national history that is played out in parallel with their lives. Balls and soirees alternate with councils of war and the machinations of statesmen and generals, scenes of violent battles with everyday human passions in this book of extraordinary imaginative power. The work is epic in scale and is regarded as one of the most important works of world literature.

And it’s all here! 15 books, 2 epilogues, and 349 chapters, all meticulously reformatted for a beautiful look on your NOOK. The original version contained quite a bit of French. Nearly all of it has been translated to English here, however some parts of conversation have been maintained in the original French dialect. These passages are translated immediately following the paragraph in which they appear.
