Visigothic: Wizards and Kings Epic Two
This is the second volume of the second book in Visigothic Saga, by Jay P. Newcomb. The original Visigothic: Wizards and Kings was published as one single volume. It needed critical updates to the text, and the added length necessitated that the second edition be released as a set of two books called epics. This was done so as not to interfere with the established order of the books that follow. This volume continues with the chapter following the last chapter of the first volume, as do the page numbers. Since it is not stand-alone work, it has none of the special prologues of introduction that the first volume has. In this volume, the brave and noble knights have began the march home, bringing with them the White Wizard of the East, Dithranti who leads a great army of Celts and Fauns who have entered the Midgard War, knowing that the vile Sorcerer of Dakkia, Adawulf Hister Carpathia must be defeated at all costs, lest the entire world be enslaved. However, Dithranti and his army must take an unwanted detour into the heart of an evil, haunted forest called Myrkvidr, in order to rescue a child who has been forced into the evil cult of the Draugr, horrible vampires led by Lothar the Defiler, for the very future of the Elves may depend on the child. A great concentration of the dark powers known as the thriller will push Dithranti and the Guardians of Midgard to the very limit of endurance. Yet all the hopes of Midgard rests upon whether or not they can succeed as the must stand and face the vilest, evilest, foulest creatures that hell has ever conjured!

In the meanwhile, young Sigmund the Volsung and Princess Eileza of the Dwarves have run away in a desperate attempt to stay together, upsetting the plans of those who would force them to marry people that they do not love, merely for political expediency. They will stand together come what may, as their legendary romance continues, amid epic landscapes and unending vistas of a great and untamed world, and love one another in the midst of the most terrible war in history surrounded by a world gone mad.

Queen Gwynnayln meanwhile is heavily pregnant with the child of prophecy. The wicked Loki, working through his sorcerer Hister, knows that the birth of the holy prince will usher in the era of Loki's doom, and so he will seek at all costs to murder both mum and child! Will the Guardians of Midgard arrive in time for the Gathering? The Gathering, a moot of the Wizards and the Spirit Maidens around the Shield Maiden Queen must happen at all costs, for the war of the gods of Asgard has spilled over into Midgard! Thor and Wotan will once again battle Loki in the most titanic battle in the astral plain since the start of the Midgard War!

About the Author

Jay P. Newcomb is a very prolific author in the genre of High Fantasy, with (as of this writing) six total installments in the Visigothic Saga, four unpublished manuscripts in the series and one in the making. He grew up as an avid reader of world history, reading about the Romans and other civilizations by the time he was twelve. He later served in the American Army as a scout in the 11the Armored Cavalry Regiment at Observation Post Alpha during much of the 1980s, along what was then, the East German Border. During his travels, he was able to explore castles and monasteries, and the forests of central Germany, where much of the history he had read avidly since childhood had happened--particular the famous Germanic Tribes, who would come to figure very largely in his works of high fantasy. He is a descendant of the Alemani, the Anglo-Saxons and the East Anglian Vikings, able to trace his family back, son to father for nearly a thousand years. It is his own since of his family continuity that inspires him to want to know who his ancestors were, and in the research for Visigothic, he has found his roots and his calling. He has drawn deep inspiration from many forms of medieval literature, especially Beowulf (about whom he wrote and extended poem in his book called Middangeard), the Arthurian and Robin Hood stories, Viking Sagas, and the operas of Richard Wagner. As one reads his books, take note of the appearance of the Valkyries, in passages where he will say, "It was a cavalcade of Brunhilde and her sisters". This is to invoke in the mind of the reader once of the most intense and dramatic pieces of music ever written, "Ride of the Valkyries" by Wagner, and to bring into these battle scenes involving the Norse gods, the intensity and suddenness of the situation that the characters find themselves in. To truly know Jay, you must read his books, for in them he has poured out, not just his creative talents, but his heart and soul.
