He rules with iron fists. And yet, the woman who shares his bed sees much more than his wicked hands. She thinks he has an angel's heart. Their youngest son, Violin, discovers at a very young age, there are two sides to love, unbridled devotion, and jealous rage. To him, love and hate have become one. They have no middle. He's given a purple heart; all because of his undying affection for the woman who calls him son. But when a woman has been trampled beneath the sleeves of love, the longing to "will" love, sometimes becomes her weakest armor. He hears her cries in his sleep, and wakes up with her scars. Her tears become his cry, when she has suffered too much at the hands of the "monster". Violin struggles with himself to fight his own demons. "Even roses have thorns," his mother says to him.
