Vietnam - The Teenage Wasteland
I am a combat veteran from the Vietnam War. I was a drafted Hippie who never wanted to harm another living thing. My how things change!

Since the war has been over, friends, relatives and casual acquaintances would pump me for information about the war. To this day not a lot of people understood that war and didn’t understand what they were watching on TV while they ate they dinners. There are still a lot of questions unanswered.

“Boomers” are still a major audience for reading materials marketing in America. I have found through the years that they are largely still very interested in the Vietnam War and they’ve become very interested when they realize a lot of us soldiers were Hippies before the war and especially dedicated to “flower-power” afterwards. They really want to know what makes us so different. The contrast of Hippie Soldiers is largely compelling.

Friends who read this book actually thanked me for answering all of their questions about our personal sacrifices, agonies, attitudes and how we kept our own sanity. This book puts them right in my shoes so they can experience what I experienced, feel the emotions, the sensations and the pain or pleasure.

Overview
This book is divided into four distinct parts:
1. “What Was it like” answers all of the questions I’ve been asked such as “What was the weather like?”. “What About Drugs”, What About the People?” “What Were the Weapons Like?” and so forth. This is what I call “The Education Section.” Any question I was ever asked is covered in this section so that the reader totally gets it.

2. The story of the Hippies in combat; my personal story about learning how to survive in this killing machine while keeping my convictions and principles intact. I start with being a “FNG” to the point where I end up running the company and keeping my men alive and safe as possible.

3. We were involved in Operation Lamar Plain, one of the biggest offensives in 1969. The operation began when my company was nearly overrun by a Division of North Vietnamese soldiers and we were reduced from nearly a hundred fighting men to thirty-three of us left standing. Then we fought back for the next three months until we finally destroyed the Division of NVA who started all of the trouble.

Re-entry into the USA was more brutal than the war itself with more hatred from Americans towards us soldiers than the enemy had shown us. Whatever morale we had left was taken from us in the airports and on the street by those who were against the war.

I hope you read this book. You will be more than empowered with information about this war.
