David Channing is a burned out private investigator and ex-cop specializing in missing persons. He has had to pull the trigger one too may times and needs to get away to think about a career change. After finishing up his last case he changes the message on his phone. "You have reached the office of David Channing Private Investigations. I will be out of the office and out of town for an unspecified period of time. If you are currently in need of a private investigator I am sorry but I cannot be of service to you at this time." He is ready to leave when she walks in. Her name is Emma and she surprises David by telling him that she doesn't want him to find someone. She wants him to lose someone, her. Channing listens, but then explains that he is not taking any new cases as he is contemplating a career change. He refers her to another P.I. and believes that is the end of it, at least as far as he is concerned. But a lot can happen in a short period of time. When Channing returns to town two weeks later he finds that the P.I. he referred Emma to is dead. Two local mobsters are also dead, two million in mob money is missing, and the mob kingpin believes Emma is somehow involved. Channning must take one last case. He must find Emma and learn the truth before it's too late.
