This book updates earlier information with new nursing research by esteemed scholars. About the Author

Patricia A. Grady, PhD, RN, FAAN, has been affiliated with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) since 1988, first as an extramural research program administrator in the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), then as a member of the NIH Task Force for Medical Rehabilitation Research and assistant director of NINDS, until 1995, when she was appointed director of the National Institute of Nursing Research.

Ada Sue Hinshaw, PhD, RN, FAAN, is dean emeritus and professor emeritus, Graduate School of Nursing, Uniformed Services, University of the Health Sciences, Bethesda, Maryland, and dean emeritus and professor, University of Michigan School of Nursing, where she served as dean from 1994 to 2006. She was also the first permanent director of the National Center of Nursing Research and the first director of the National Institute of Nursing Research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Description: This book discusses the role of nursing research in health policy, focusing on three health policies: the IOM Future of Nursing Report, the Affordable Care Act, and the genomic nursing science blueprint. It includes an ebook version, but I was unable to access it. I followed the instructions to download the book, which requires getting an app. After getting the app, when I attempted to open the book, I got a message that it could not be opened because my "internet connection was flaky." I contacted the help services for the app twice and did not get a satisfactory answer. After over two hours of trying on my iPhone, iPad, and laptop, I became concerned that there was a problem with the app and I stopped attempting to download it.
Purpose: The purpose of the book is to examine the crucial interrelationships between nursing research and health policy.
Audience: The editors intend this book for undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and nursing professionals. With an emphasis on policies that are currently affecting our healthcare system, this is a good resource for health policy courses and for nurses who are interested in health policy. Based on their education and experience, which includes research, the editors are credible authorities in this area.
Features: The book demonstrates the relationship between nursing research and three health policies that are currently affecting our healthcare system. The three sections of the book cover emerging areas shaping health policies, examples of nursing science shaping health policy, and framing the future. The section with examples of nursing science shaping health policy is very informative. Topics of interest such as self-management of various illnesses, aging, and palliative care are featured with discussions of the impact of policies on those conditions.
Assessment: This is a unique book addressing the timely subject of health policies that affect the current healthcare system. I know of no other books that cover this subject. This book would be helpful to all students and nurses wanting to understand the role of nursing research in the development of health policies.
