About the Author

During her sophomore year at the Jewish day school she attends, Lilly Wise participated in a class project to write and illustrate a book that told the story of how two members of the local community survived the Holocaust. Lilly, whose artistic talents became evident in early childhood, drew the pictures for the book, “Manek and Hannah.”

Lilly was inspired and deeply moved by the project. She already knew the remarkable story of how her Papa Fred’s mother was saved from deportation to a concentration camp by an Egyptian doctor who risked his life to save her. She wanted to work on the illustrations for a new book that would tell this remarkable story of bravery. Lilly's other interests include baking beautiful cakes and pastries with stunning artistic flair, tennis, volunteering in her community, and getting ready for her college years!

Joyce Kamen —Lilly's proud Bubbie (grandmother)— is a marketing and communications professional. She is a the co-author of a book (with her late physician father) about his experiences as a general practitioner outside of Chicago during the 1950s. "Can I Show You How My Eye Falls Out of My Head Now, Doc?" can be found on Amazon. Joyce is also an Emmy winning video and television writer, producer and director.
