About the Author

Susan Reed is a musician, storyteller and writer. She believes that music and story broaden our understanding of the world. Susan's books and CDs have won many awards. She lives in Massachusetts, USA with her husband and three children.

Rachel Oldfield studied illustration at Brighton University. She has also illustrated Up, Up, Up! and Outdoor Opposites for Barefoot Books. Rachel lives with her family in the English countryside.

PreS-Gr 1—Vibrant, cheery spreads illustrate this fun, imaginative song by a folk musician and singer. Three children sail in a hot-air balloon over land and sea, near and far, through the clouds and to the stars. As with many songs turned picture book, the refrain ("Up, up, up, up in a balloon./Up so high I can touch the moon…"), which flows nicely when sung, becomes repetitive and tedious on the page. The accompanying CD features two instrumental versions as well as a pleasing, folksy rendition by Reed, and musical notations are appended in the book.
