Overview

"Up the Rio Coco: A Plume Hunter's Adventures in Nicaragua" is a two-part 10-page article by the magazine: Shooting and Fishing, A Journal of the Rifle Gun and Rod, appearing in Volume 37, Nos. 23-24, on March 16 & 23, 1905.

This article narrates the experiences of an anonymous plume hunter and feather dealer who travels to Central America in the pursuit of the white heron plumes which were in high demand by society ladies as adornment for their fashionable hats. The hunter meets with unexpected adventure when he is abandoned in the jungle by his crew of native guides.

Although it is a relatively short article of 10 pages, it is important as one of the few accounts of plume hunting from this Victorian era.
