This fine volume will be a useful addition to the literature on Socrates and late antique thought. A group effort by five classicists who teach at universities in the Midwest, each of the four works are preceded by an introduction then presented in English translation followed by the Greek or Latin original, with full annotation and bibliography. The works, translated here for the first time into English, are Diogenes Laertius' Life of Socrates, Libanius' Apology of Socrates, Maximus of Tyre's Whether Socrates did the right thing when he did not defend himself, and Apuleius' On the God of Socrates.
