Overview

The aquatic agony that Angelica was in tested her to the limit. Although surrounded by the seeming endless Pacific Ocean, her intense military training and strong character overcame her fear of being immersed in water. She had no choice. It was either recall how to swim or die alone in a watery grave. But she had a vital advantage she did not have before, her wondrous biological flight suit and helmet. This top secret outfit prevented any of the ocean water from touching her body. If that happened, she would have never regained her composure. At first her aquatic efforts were slow and clumsy, but her former academy teacher's badgering instructions became clear. Her strength and determination saved her from the horror she had dreamed so many times, death in the water. The island she was approaching was called Teraina, once a British Crown Colony. On this small piece of land she would endure her final battle with her childhood nemesis and find another lifelong friend. This new addition to her large list of companions would be her ticket home to Anrypa (Ann-Rye-Pah).
Although the Battle for Earth was victorious there was one more conflict for her world to win. This was not a shooting confrontation, but one far more vicious. Political engagements are the worst and Anrypans had to win this battle on their own. Victory would assure the long coveted and denied Full Membership in the United Worlds Authority organization. What the Anrypan Emperor or any of his citizens did not realize was that their final association would go well beyond its immediate benefits. A glorious future awaited the fine and honorable people of Anrypa.

About the Author

A native of Boston, Massachusetts, Stephen L. Baker lives in Beavercreek, just outside Dayton, Ohio. The two things he dislikes are cities (cramped and dirty), and highways/roads (deadly, and driving is a waste of time). He retired from the US Air Force, Civil Service, with over 30 years involvement with missile and aircraft development. Despite this heavy technical background, UWA is not a technical story, which is a problem with many Sci-Fi books. His belief is people read Sci-Fi for entertainment and the cornerstone of that are the characters. People enjoy reading about people. The pictures at the top of each chapter and on the website illustrate what a "practical" spacecraft should look like, compared to the normal Hollywood fanciful concoctions. The world that is the centerpiece of the novel is a reverse, or mirror image of ours. Readers have commented that they wish it existed and they could go there. The UWA website provides some of these settings. Much more will be available on a disk for use as relaxing screen savers.
