The Junior League of Racine is pleased to present this very special cookbook, celebrating our 100th year, our centennial. Having served Racine, Wisconsin since 1916, we know a little bit about what's being served on the best tables in our community. From appetizers to desserts, we searched long and hard for the best recipes our members and friends have served in their homes. As our cover hints, we've also included great cupcake and cake recipes perfect for celebrating!
Cookbooks and Junior Leagues share a long history, and Junior League of Racine is no exception. We've included 414 home tested family recipes that we are certain will please both the discerning gourmet and the cook looking for something simple but delicious. Many of these creative offerings were a part of our original cookbook, Udderly Delicious, published in 1989. It was our first foray into cookbooks, but we knew it was a winner when it sold 10,000 copies!
Junior League's volunteers have left their mark throughout the community and food has often played a role. In addition to recipes for celebrations, meetings and everyday, our "signature" recipes for Taco Rice Casserole and Chicken Tortilla Soup are included, and have been prepared for years by members as donations to community meals and Empty Bowls, a hunger fighting event. In recent years, we've brought The Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI) Kids in the Kitchen program to children in our community, and The Very Hungry Caterpillar muffin tin lunch is a current project.
We hope these wonderful memories provided through our unique story of impacting Racine and our treasured recipes connect the next generation to our history and traditions. As we celebrate 100 years of Junior League volunteers helping make Racine a wonderful place to live, we thank the community for their support and offer this new and exciting cookbook Uniquely and Utterly Delicious as a tribute to past, present and future members.
