About the Author

Dr. Johnmarshall Reeve is a Professor in the Institute for Positive Psychology and Education at the Australian Catholic University in Sydney, Australia. He received his PhD in General Experimental Psychology from Texas Christian University in the USA and completed postdoctoral work at the University of Rochester. His research focuses on all aspects of human motivation and emotion, but mostly on autonomy-supportive teaching, students' classroom engagement, and the neuroscience of intrinsic motivation. He has authored 4 books, edited 3 books, and published 94 articles in peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Educational Psychology, Educational Psychologist, and American Psychologist. Prof. Reeve served as Editor-in-Chief of the journal Motivation and Emotion (2011-2017), and he serves on the editorial board of five journals. He has received multiple research-based awards, including the Thomas N. Urban Research Award from the FINE Foundation for research to enhance educational practice, twice for research excellence, and twice for the outstanding article published in the Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology.
