Under the Surface
"A human? NO, of course not! An alien? Still a possibility. A creature from another dimension? Also in the running. A ghost with unfinished business. . .? Becoming increasingly more likely."

When the small town of Settlers Valley, Utah first heard about the mysterious death of Jessica Townsend, they were terrified. The town was swarmed by the media, but as the evidence dried up and the case ran cold, everyone gave up on Jessica. . .well, almost everyone.

Fueled by misfit-teen-angst, Nate and his UFO-obsessed best friend Kyle take it upon themselves to become the amateur sleuths Settlers Valley doesn't know it needs. Nate strives to investigate suspects and clues using logic, while Kyle sets his sights on more unusual possibilities using his cryptid compendium called The Bestiary and some objectively bad ideas. But as time goes on, Kyle's supernatural explanations start to make more sense than Nate would like to admit.

Bikes, backpacks, and The Bestiary in tow, they obsess over the possibilities, go on definitely-not-government-sanctioned investigations, and make numerous trips to the local video rental store.

Nate and Kyle only know one thing for sure: Something's not quite right under the surface of their small town- and they intend to uncover the truth.
