Purpose: The purpose is to provide visual guidance and a review of indications and applications of ultrasound guidance techniques for botulinum toxin injections. This book and atlas provides a unique comprehensive option to references in the evolving field of chemodenervation.
Audience: It is most appropriate for practitioners who routinely perform ultrasound-guided botulinum injections and wish to improve their technique. The authors are experienced practitioners who specialize in the care of patients with spasticity, who represent a large portion of patients seen by physiatrists.
Features: A strong review of neurotoxins and their pharmacology begins the book, which then addresses the different disease processes and anatomical regions for which these treatments can be administered. A significant portion of the book is devoted to ultrasound fundamentals and techniques in imaging the structures pertinent to neurotoxins. The book serves as a thorough anatomic atlas for the structures that are injected and surface injection points. The DVD provides excellent presentations of the dynamic anatomy in ultrasound.
Assessment: Given the popularity of ultrasound guided procedures, this is an excellent resource. The DVD is unique and its interactive features are very helpful for those wanting to perform these interventions.
