Overview

What People are Saying About This

From the Publisher

“Peter Opitz is the leading scholar of Zwingli’s theological and exegetical writings. Highly engaging and readable, this book leads the reader into Zwingli’s innovative thought and complex personality in the context of the rapidly unfolding career of the Swiss reformer. This book is invaluable for those seeking to learn about one of the least known but most influential figures of the Reformation. Here we learn about the origins of the Reformed tradition.”

—Bruce Gordon, professor of ecclesiastical history, Yale Divinity School

“This fresh and stimulating approach to one of the key persons in the Reformation movement is the fruit of the writing skills and the impressive knowledge of Peter Opitz. He brings Zwingli’s life and thought to us in a book with a lot more content than its size suggests.”

—Herman Selderhuis, president, Reformation Research Consortium

“Zwingli is sometimes called ‘the forgotten man of the Reformation.’ Yet his theological contributions and influences were pervasive and significant. Peter Opitz is one of our finest Reformation scholars. This interesting, compact, and clearly written study makes it evident why Zwingli is important. Opitz captures the vitality of Zwingli’s faith and conveys the theological bases for his actions. Here we see Zwingli’s impacts and why he was truly a ‘pioneer of Protestantism.’”

—Donald K. McKim, author of Reformed Theology from A to Z
