About the Author

Dr. David Shoup served over 38 years as professor of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering at major American universities including Purdue University, University of Florida, University of Arizona, Southern Illinois University, and the University of Tennessee. He taught over 20,000 college students and published over 500 academic books and papers. He won seven college level teaching and advising awards and several international and state recognitions for his instructional work. In addition to being a life member of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, he served as an international director of the society, Chair of the Florida section, Chair of the Arizona section, and Vice Chair of the Tennessee Section. He performed research in light and radiation technologies, food recovery and preservation, counterterrorism, robotics, global positioning, and geographical information systems. He supervised 75 masters and PhD research projects.
As an academic administrator, he served as College assistant dean, associate dean, dean, Director of International programs, and Director of Academic Programs. He held national leadership as Chair of the Western Academic Deans for academic and organizational policy. His leadership helped to establish federal funding for the 29 Native American institution Tribal Land-Grant Act and funding for the Hispanic institutions scholarship fund.
