Overview

In 1983 New York City waged a war against the vicious crack gangs who sought to corner the market of this new and addictive drug. The NYPD fought these crack dealers with a weapon that could deal with them on their terms. It was a weapon that was swift, determined and accurate. At times it was more brutal than the drug dealers themselves because it operated above the law. It was a weapon concealed from the public eye. A weapon no one wanted to talk about. It was the Undercover Narcotics Operative.

UC630 was the worst of them.

About the Author

William King Grimball I was born and raised in the South Bronx, New York City during the heroin plagued 60’s and 70’s. In January of 1982 he joined the New York City Police Department’s largest recruit class ever. In 1983 the Organized Crime Control Bureau (OCCB) recruited him to their Narcotics Division.

Between 1983 and 1987 he was reputed to be the number 1 undercover narcotics operative in the State. During his tenure he accounted for over 800 felony arrests, the seizure and closure of medical clinics (Pill Mills) involved in the Medicaid Fraud Scandal, and the implementation of new Federal procedural law regarding street level narcotics trafficking. The Supreme Court, Appellate Division, recognizes him as an expert in street level narcotics operations. (United States Court of Appeals, Second Circuit. - 776 F.2d 397). After four years as an undercover he was promoted to Detective.
10 years later he retired…without warning.
