Overview

This story was awarded the distinguished and prestigious "Mom's Choice Award Honoring Excellence". Tyler, the rabbit, sees a beautiful red car in a store window, while shopping with his mother. He asked his mother to buy it for him, but she promised it as a gift for his birthday if he behaved like a very good rabbit until his birthday. On the day of his birthday he was delighted to receive and play with his promised gift. However, when he noticed that a younger guest at his birthday party was very sad and crying because he had received no toy of his own with which to play, Tyler offered him his new red car to make him happy. This gesture of friendship and generosity led Tyler to discover that giving away his beautiful red car to the guest who needed more than he did, made him feel more proud and much happier than if he had kept for himself. His birthday celebration not only marked the addition of one more year to his age, but promoted his growth in caring for others and sharing his possessions with them.. Author M. C. About the Author

M. C. Abushar holds a Doctor of Education degree from Pepperdine University at Malibu, California. She served as principal of an elementary parochial school for 19 years. She holds a bachelor's degree in Art. She is currently writing and illustrating more stories about the encounters of Tyler, the heroic rabbit who was introduced in her first children's book, "Tyler's Promised Gift", which was awarded the prestigious "Mom's Choice Award" Honoring Excellence. M. C. Abushar displayed talent in the arts from an early age. She began drawing at age thirteen. She won first place in a city-wide high school art contest. The prize was a trip to the Holy Land. She has a B.A. in art and a graduate certificate in etching from Hornsey College of Art, London. She loved to write and began by composing poems at age fourteen. American Girl Magazine granted an award to her poem "Fog", written at age fifteen. It won a cash prize and was published on the poetry page of their magazine.Commitment to providing excellence in education for children ages three through ten led M. C. Abushar to obtain a doctorate in K-12 education administration from Pepperdine University. Her experience as parochial elementary school principal in Los Angeles contributed to her gaining mastery in communicating with young kids.
