About the Author

Rita has lived an interesting and varied life. She had a couple of successful novels published in South Africa, writing in Afrikaans under her maiden name, Rita Landman. Later on, her books on interior decorating not only confirmed her as an accomplished interior decorator, but also highlighted her talent for writing and her fine understanding of the intrinsic human need for a place to shelter, to nurture the family, and to delight in beauty. Rita later spent twenty-three years in New Zealand, not writing but creating fabulous homes and gardens for her family and friends to enjoy. She delighted in the cool beauty of New Zealand, and understood the soft light of the Hauraki Gulf, allowing it to guide and influence her decorating style. A move to Australia in 2013, after the death of her husband in 2010, signalled a new creative phase in her life. Retreating into a quiet and reflective lifestyle allowed her to draw on life's experiences and wisdom gathered along the way.
