Although three minor criminals were involved in the actual abduction of the girls, the mastermind behind the heinous crime calls himself the Pied Piper, and he alone is receiving the lion's share of the $8 million ransom. But just as his meticulously constructed crime is about to come to its scheduled conclusion -- with the twins being safely reunited with their parents and the four criminals getting away with the money -- one of the Pied Piper's crew, an emotionally unstable woman hired to take care of the girls during their confinement, throws a monkey wrench into the plans by killing one of the kidnappers and taking off with Kathy.
