Truthteller
In her latest novel Truthteller, author Pamela A. Kelley shines more light on the world of high-powered lawyers—and their clients—through the further adventures of Mike Girardi, who was first introduced in The Crooked Elm Partnership.
Recovering from the scandalous breakup of his former Newport Beach law firm, Mike Girardi must restart his career. He lands at another high-powered firm, where his colleagues are inscrutable and their cases confounding. One of his new partners, the blunt, ambitious and brilliant Nina Kuznetsov, entangles Girardi in a double web of cases involving stolen medieval illuminated manuscripts and the secret past of Virginia Fox, the author of the best-selling, feminist Truthteller memoir series.
As both litigations culminate at the courthouse on the same day, Girardi spars with belligerent opposing counsel and contends with willful colleagues, intractable clients, falsehoods, unpredictable emotions and a wily expert witness. To get there, Girardi must navigate uncomfortable disclosures by Truthteller Fox and face head-on the courts' limited capacity to dispense true justice. Throughout his adventures, Girardi is accompanied by his old friends, including Judge Mitch Best, Episcopal priest Susan Mountjoy and lawyer Elizabeth Stowe.
Can Girardi help the Truthteller salvage her reputation and find peace? Can he and Kuznetsov put aside their egos to find the best home for the medieval Armenian treasures? Girardi will need to draw on all his skill and experience to uncover the truth, bring favorable results and carve his place in the firm.
