Gr 2—Having fun while making music is the stated goal of these brief introductions to commonly used instruments. Simple sentence structure, generous white space, and an unusually large font alternate with engaging full-page color photographs. On the first page, onomatopoeic text approximates the sound of the featured instrument and gives readers a description of how it is created; succeeding pages present the shape and materials used to make the featured instrument, describe its parts, and give a brief overview of its use in the past and present. As introductions, these titles adequately present sound production and encourage youngsters to experiment with playing an instrument.
