True Stories Of The 50's Part Five

Did you know that gas stations gave away dyed chicks at Easter time - purple, green, you name it? Or that vendors traveled to neighborhoods to sell vegetables and fish from their trucks, that scores of neighborhood kids got together on the streets at night to play hide and seek, red light-green light, or one potato two potato? That the "tax man" came to your door and sat down to go over taxable items in your house? And doctors actually did pay house calls, charging only what they thought the family could afford? Such was the working class neighborhood in which I lived…and I wouldn't trade the experiences for anything. This series of humorous, true accounts, focuses on the kids of the time, through the eyes of a kid, and I think you'll enjoy them.

About the Author

As a special education teacher, vocational evaluator, and later as a GED instructor, the author gained years of practical writing experience. Between careers, he fulfilled a long-held dream of many who have a love of reading and books, by opening a used bookstore in Omaha, Nebraska. Retired now from the formal job, he still occasionally produces works of fiction and non-fiction, as he has for most of his life...but fishes regularly.
