Joaquín's specialty is illustrations for children and adolescents, but he likes to work in a wide variety of artistic fields that include advertising, editorial, character design, cartoons, and comics.

At first glance this looks like a fairly typical book about trucks. On the first spread a canine mechanic in bib overalls introduces the sounds trucks make. But…turn the page and rotate the book 90 degrees to find nine fanciful vehicles operated by animals dressed as community helpers. Above the gutter, the sound it makes is repeated three times. But here’s the trick: Each page is split into three sturdy sections that can be flipped up independently to create inventive vehicle mashups. Older children will flip the pages repeatedly to create outlandish combinations. Younger children may need help manipulating the pages. Hundreds of possible combinations make this a good choice for situations when a young trucker needs to be entertained for a while. Just don’t expect them to be quiet. The onomatopoeia changes as the sections are flipped, too; making the sounds is a large part of the fun. The vehicles, at first recognizable as a school bus, police car, fire engine, etc., are delightfully silly when sections are randomly combined. What might one hear from a vehicle with monster-truck front, dump-truck middle, and construction–digging-tool rear end? “CRUNCH HONK RUMBLE,” of course. That’s fun!
