About the Author

Dr. S.G. Deogaonkar is a scholar of repute and his specialisation is Political and Social Anthropology, Tribal Development and Constitutional Law. He has been associated with developmental activities in tribal areas and completed many research projects based on field-research. He has participated and presented papers at many State and National level conferences including the Xth International Congress of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences. He was a Member on the District Planning and Development Council of the Chandrapur district and was Chancellor's Nominee on the Nagpur University Senate. Dr. Deogaonkar was a Member-Participant of the Socio-Economic Groups on Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes for formulation of the Eighth Five-Year Plan Schemes constituted under the Backward Classes Division of the Planning Commission. At present he is a Non-official Member on the Governing Body of the tribal Research and Training Institute of the Maharashtra State at Pune. He is also a Member of the School Council of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University at Nasik. Dr. Deogaonkar has completed many post-doctoral research projects for the U.G.C and ICSSR and was a National (post-doctoral) Research Fellow in Tribal Development of the Ministry of Welfare Government of India. He has published many works which include, Administration for Rural Development in India, The Madia of Bhamragad, Problems of Development of Tribal Areas; The Hill Korwa; The Korku Tribals; The Banjara; Political Anthropology, Tribal Exploitation; Tribal Development Plans etc. He has also contributed four ethnographic notes to the 'People of India' compendium Published by the Anthropological Survey of India. Dr. Deogaonkar is working as Head, Department of Political Science at the Anand Niketan College, Warora (Maharashtra).
