About the Author

All her life, Pat Brim was known for her love of literature, art, hospitality and music, shared with her children, her community and the hundreds of students to whom she taught English. A former state chairman of Utah Common Cause, she also served on the board of the League of Women Voters of Utah and of Salt Lake City, as Chair of the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, on the Rowland Hall Alumni Board and as a member of the Utah Women's State Legislative Council.
Patricia was born in Marion, Ohio in 1923 to a writing family. Her father Waide Condon worked as a journalist and newspaper editor, as well as serving as U.S. Embassy staff in Greece, Yugoslavia, India and Pakistan. Her mother Geneal Johnson Condon published several books and articles on the art of drying flowers. Patricia was raised in Salt Lake City, graduating from the Rowland Hall School in 1941 and earning a BA in English Literature from the University of Utah where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa. She earned an MA in English Literature from The American University, Washington DC in 1964 and taught English at the University of Utah, American University and the Holton Arms School for Girls in Bethesda, Maryland where her passion for literature inspired a generation of young women. She also was an accomplished classical pianist. She married Raymond Edward Brim (Colonel, USAF Retired) on December 7, 1942, with whom she celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on December 7, 2007. Their marriage was a loving friendship that warmed the lives of all who knew them.
