About the Author

My name is Gail, and I’m an RPN working in Long Term Care. I have worked there for over a decade—longer than some and not as long as others. The things that I have seen may shock you or make you cry. I think that it’s important to tell these stories to connect the public with the life of nurses in Long Term Care. My journey in this field has been both challenging and rewarding, providing me with invaluable insights into the emotional and practical aspects of transitioning into long-term care.

Through my experiences, I have witnessed the struggles and triumphs that residents face as they adapt to their new environment. I have interacted with families navigating complex decisions and have provided support during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. This book, “Transitions: Navigating Long Term Care,” is a culmination of these experiences, aimed at demystifying the process of moving into a long-term care facility. I hope to offer guidance, reassurance, and a deeper understanding of what to expect, as well as to highlight the compassionate care that dedicated professionals provide every day. My goal is to bridge the gap between the public and the often-overlooked narratives of life in long-term care, fostering empathy and awareness for both residents and caregivers alike.
