About the Author

Marilu, the Queen Mother, was born in the City of Tula, Hidalgo, Mexico. From an early age she and my grandmother cooked for my grandfather and uncles, while they worked in the fields. In this way, she learned the secrets of the Mexican cuisine.
At age 14, Marilu moved to Mexico City with her older sister, aunty Jóse, to become a nurse. She was a nurse for 38 years in the public sector and educated thousands on health and hygiene. In Mexico City, the Queen Mother met and married my father. My father and she travelled a lot as part of his job, so Marilu learned recipes and cooking styles from all over Mexico, to pamper my father and me.
Now, the Queen Mother continues to nurture. She has returned to Tula, Hidalgo to educate people about first aid. In the meantime, she has provided here many of her Mexican recipes for me and you to enjoy. She’s always busy!
I know firsthand how amazing the Queen Mother’s food is. I have compared it to food all over Mexico, and know the difference. I’ll never stop eating my mom’s food – and once you try it, never will you. One day maybe we’ll open up a Mexican restaurant in Atlanta, Georgia. Maybe we’ll become big enough to open up many restaurants. Who knows?
My life would not make sense without my mom because she is the one who instills all principles and values on me. We make a great team, and it's time for Marilu to shine like a star and help people cook in the best Mexican style.
Please enjoy all that the Queen Mother and I are sharing with you: her love and nurturing, her skill and passion. Here’s to hoping we’ll one day sit down, share the table and break bread together.
A big hug from your friends,
Marilu y Max
