About the Author

Mara Fernandez grew up reading incessantly as a gateway to a magical reality where she pictured a world of harmony and acceptance from many fascinating characters who kept her in great company day after day.

Her parents arrived from Cuba to Puerto Rico where the author was born and was inspired by this enchanted island or “La Isla del Encanto” and all of its paradise-like landscape of luscious vegetation as well as jewel blue, clear oceans.

Mara was educated at Boston University and has spent over 30 years in the field of child education and development in Tampa, Florida. She is well traveled and enjoys sharing and learning from different cultures. Her mission is to make the world a better place by making education fun. In this endeavor, she seeks to raise social conscience on a wide variety of issues.

At age 51 the author, who now lives in Tampa, Florida is fascinated by the area’s coastal wildlife and majestic sunsets which also served as an inspiration for her first book.

She has always relished her strong connection with nature and is a strong advocate for wildlife and nature preservation. In fact most of the illustrations in this book are drawn from historical Torbeo/Galicia and from her real-life pet companions that live with her family.

The author has always emphasized cultural diversity, nature and the arts as a way of finding common ground between all people of the world. Mara Fernandez is the mother of an 11 year old daughter who also enjoys reading, nature and is likewise a strong advocate of wildlife and its habitat.
