Overview

The soundtrack to the 36-years-in-coming movie sequel Top Gun: Maverick teams up Top Gun (1986) composer Harold Faltermeyer with Hans Zimmer, Lorne Balfe, and Lady Gaga. They and a handful of others contribute in various incarnations to a rock-injected orchestral score based partly on the original film's anthem. With songwriting help from one of those others, Michael Tucker (aka BloodPop), Gaga also provides the new power ballad "Hold My Hand." The album's score tracks alternate with pop songs including the latter, a reprisal of Kenny Loggins' "Danger Zone," and a live-on-set performance of "Great Balls of Fire" by cast member Miles Teller. Other contributors to the soundtrack include OneRepublic, who offer up original song "I Ain't Worried," and Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr, who performs the movie's theme just a year after his appearance on the Bond theme "No Time to Die." ~ Marcy Donelson
