Overview

The author of this 1914 installment in Constable's Modern Biographies series a felicitous choice, not only because of Garnett’s own literary sensibilities but because of the professional talents of his wife, Constance, the leading Russian translator of her day.  The result is an insightful, judicious appreciation of Tolstoy and his texts.
