Overview

Catholic social teaching for children is not an extra or a frill but is an essential part of faith formation. Our call to a strong social justice tradition has its roots in the Hebrew Scriptures and above all in Jesus' tremendous compassion for those who suffer. It seems even more imperative that we develop in our children compassion and a desire to help others as this vast world of ours becomes a "global village." We need to equip our youngsters with the knowledge, vocabulary, and motivation for addressing social justice issues and problems. Introducing Catholic Social Teaching to Children aims to help our youngsters think, feel, and act with justice by using a format that is appealing, informative, and engaging. The stories that illustrate the seven social justice principles, the teachings of Vatican II, and the beatitudes are drawn from the lives of saints and Christian witnesses. They also include fictional stories based on real situations of children around the world. Creative activities help youngsters apply what they've learned in enjoyable, concrete ways. The author also offers a wealth of resources for more materials and activities, including books and AVs, organizations, websites, and ideas for social action. A must-have resource for DREs, coordinators, catechists, and religion teachers, Introducing Catholic Social Teaching to Children will help you open the eyes of your children to new ways of looking at and being involved in the world around them.
