Overview

Time Swimmer is the story of a young Jamaican, Luke, who befriends an ancient storytelling sea turtle, Odysseus. Together they travel through Caribbean time, righting wrongs and saving lives - the pirate, Henry Morgan, for one; and Cyparis, the only survivor of the Pelee volcano that killed 28,000 people in Martinique in 1902, to name another. The novel is full of spiders that are men and lizards that are gods. All mixed together in a pepperpot stew of fantastic spice that blends fiery history with delectable fantasy.

About the Author

Gerald Hausman is the author of more than 70 books, most of which deal with the themes of survival, adventure, the natural world,as well as the world of fantasy. His works have been published in a dozen different languages and two films have been adapted from his books. In addition he has written many books about animals with his wife, Loretta.

I think this book is a new kind of genre that I would call historical fantasy. It combines historical events and disasters that really happened with fantasy things like Greek Gods and a talking turtle. I recommend this book for people who like adventure books, animal books and Greek Mythology. This book should be read by 10-12-year-olds since it helps to understand a bit of Greek for this book to make sense.
