About the Author

Virginia Gleser was born in Japan and grew up in Korea with her parents who were medical missionaries. Her grandmother was an artist and Virginia always enjoyed the time spent painting with her. While working for the non-profit organization called Plenty in Miami, Fla., she started her tie-dye business, honing her skills and developing original designs. In 1984 after her family had moved to Modesto, Ca., she and her husband, Robert opened Harmony Enterprises. Traveling to arts and crafts shows throughout the West, they were able to support their large family (8 kids) and help pay for college tuition for 16 years. They sold the business to their eldest son, Brian in 2003, who continues the family legacy of high quality tie-dye designs. They now spend six months of each year, cruising on their sailboat, Harmony in Mexico. Their travels have taken them as far as Central America and Ecuador. The other half of the year they are in California spending time with their adult children and six grandchildren.

I have used this book for years as a resource for participants when running group tie-dye activities. I like the photos of the folding steps, the dying steps, and finally the finished product. There are many design options in the book - all participants have tried all of them with great success.

I've purchased several tie-dye books and DVDs, this is my primary "go to" book. Author does a fantastic job:

1. Tells you at a high level the end-to-end process of tie-dyeing

2. Has text, accompanied by black and white photos on how to tie.

3. Has at least one color photo of each finished tie-dye project.

You will understand how to tie-dye several different types of patterns, and be successful at your first attempt, if you follow the information and advice.

"This is a short book that gives a good overview of the tie-dye process and was just what I was looking for. Beginner information that's easily understood with some tips for some of the more comon tying patterns.....It absolutely demystifies the process of making gorgeous colored shirts and offers information about how certain colors work on the fabric and how to accommodate them so you don't drown out the lighter colors....I think it will be a great book for my daughter and I to work from....
