About the Author

I never thought of myself or my life growing up as any different from most of my friends. As an adult, I can look back and realize that, at the time, it was very different. Most people my age had parents that stayed together, and mine did not. After my marriage, my life became even more different from that of my friends because of the many moves and various places I lived in. My life has shaped me into the person I've become today. I have been able to see so much of this world and experience the different cultures and people in their own environment. It's such an education all by itself. It opens your mind and helps you understand that people are very much alike everywhere. They love and hurt, and they want the best for themselves and their family. Sometimes, I think that if we got rid of politicians, everyone would get along much better. I know that is much too simplistic, but you understand what I mean. I realize there are jobs out there when moving is part of their lives as well, but my little circle of friends didn't move around all that much, if at all. So, it was most definitely a different life for all of us. Why I embraced it with open arms, I cannot tell you. Maybe it was the excitement of a new place or meeting new people, I don't know. All I know is that I can't imagine living any other way now. That's why I still jump in the car or on a plane and visit friends. I learned that when family isn't around, your friends become your family.
