Thursdays With Margaret is the second book that Robert Scripps has published based upon his years of research into the living circumstances of the very old. His first book, Second Chance: Life Inside a Continuing Care Retirement Community received five-star reviews from those who purchased it on Amazon. Thursdays With Margaret is the heartwarming account of the deep friendship that developed between the author and Margaret Parks, a wise and charming 94-year-old lady who, In spite of living alone, with extremely limited financial means, and without her sight, managed to face life with joy and optimism. Thursday With Margaret represents a continuation of Scripps' intimate and engrossing studies of the late-life adaptation of the very old to a range of socio-economic and environmental circumstances. The reader will come away with a sense of the potential joys and promises always possible in life regardless of one's age or adversities.

About the Author

Robert Scripps was born into a prominent Detroit family which owned and operated major market newspapers as well as radio and television stations. After graduating with an MBA degree from Scripps, following in his family’s footsteps, working for more than two decades in senior-level management positions with several large broadcasting conglomerates including ABC and CBS in addition to his role as an
advisor to the Board of Directors of his family’s businesses. Subsequently, because he had always had a keen interest in the social sciences, particularly anthropology, Scripps decided to change the direction of his life by enrolling in a graduate program in cultural anthropology at Columbia University. After graduating with his Ph.D., he published his first, highly acclaimed book, Second Chance: Life Inside a Continuing Care Retirement Community, based upon his in-residence research there. Thursdays With Margaret, which is based upon his study of the senior citizens in a small, semi-rural community is a continuation of Scripps's exploration into the lifestyles of the elderly.
