 Joseph Thomson (14 February 1858 - 2 August 1895) was a Scottish geologist and explorer who played an important part in the Scramble for Africa. Upon his return he gave an account of his experiences at a meeting of the Royal Geographical Society in November 1884. His book Through Masai Land followed in January 1885 and was a best-seller. He provided the first credible reports of snow-capped mountains on the Equator.
