About the Author

 Emilio Moran is professor of anthropology and professor of environmental studies in the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University and director of the Anthropological Center for Training and Research on Global Environmental Change. He has worked in Amazonia since 1972 and has written two previous books on the region.
