Dr. McCubbins summarizes his findings by asserting that the Lord chose His apostles, who chose their assistants--the prophets--to whom they could impart special spiritual gifts and with whom they wrote the New Testament. After the death of the last apostle, there were no more prophets. The work is vigorously written, clearly argued and well-illustrated from Scripture. The work contributes careful research to a neglected and controversial area. The work on the offices of the Holy Spirit in the Old and New Testaments clarifies contemporary issues in our clash with the charismatic movement.

This is an extremely provocative book, written by a sincere and diligent Bible Student. It is basically sound in doctrine and unapologetically firm in the fundamentals of the Faith. The author refutes many of the fallacies associated with the Charismatic movement of today. Also, he indirectly invalidates the teachings of many founders and leaders of false cults, particularly as to their unscriptural claims for apostolic or prophetic authority.
