Overview

Sixteen-year-old Jai Cassidy thought she was finally free of her family until she discovers her other relatives ...the ones that aren't human. The Atapi, a warrior alien race led by a depraved sorcerer, have masqueraded as humans for over twenty years. When Jai accidentally interferes with their barbaric activities, she becomes a target for their retribution. Using her natural perversity and cunning to escape them, she catapults herself into the middle of a deadly feud between two alien races. The Kumatan intend to eradicate the Atapi from Earth. They take Jai to their hidden village, where despite the prejudice of the Kumatan and the provocation of the captured Atapi slaves, Jai tries to maintain her human bred values. As Jai learns more about herself and her unknown biological mother, she discovers that she has inherited the talent for sorcery. Before she can even imagine what that means and with only the barest understanding of her own potential, Jai must prevail against the Sorcerer, and the Kumatan who want to neutralize her power.A novel inspired by the writings of Mercedes Lackey and Tamora Pierce.
