AFTER careful reading of the manuscript, we believe that when it is given publication it will greatly interest public officials, National and State, as well as the mass of intelligent citizens in private life, who have not hitherto had arranged for them a series of pictures equal in importance to the collection that is to be found in the twenty-one chapters of this book.
We do not know of any work in military literature published in the United States more deserving the attention of men who study the history of the United States and the Science of War than this— The Valor of Ignorance. And, as the government of the United States is "Of the people, for the people, and by the people," it is quite in order to invite citizens who control in military matters of the nation, as they do in other important national affairs, to "know thyself."
