Overview

From the front cover to the back cover and the pages inside, the “Ultimate Guide” series which include The Ultimate Guide To West Michigan Lighthouses, The Ultimate Guide To East Michigan Lighthouses and The Ultimate Guide To Upper Michigan Lighthouses is designed to handle the travels from one light to the next, year after year.
Jerry and Barb Roach produced everything that appears within the book.
The cover is 100# paper, UV coated and water resistant. The design is by Sarah Thomas of Owosso, MI.
Terry Pepper, a national renowned lighthouse historian, lecturer, and officer with the Great Lakes Lighthouse Keepers Association wrote the forward for the East and West books, while David Bishop from the Ontonagon County Historical Museum penned the Upper edition’s forward.
The inside pages of the book are 80# paper. The book is perfect bound.
Each lighthouse can easily be traced from the contents page and map, to its corresponding page within the book.
Two pages are devoted to each lighthouse:
• First page contains history, photos, and three different types of directions.
• Second page contains attractions and events, museum, points of interest, annual fairs, and festivals.
• The second page also includes a list of contacts in the area.
The three different types of directions are; a direct route from the nearest major intersection, GPS Waypoints, and a scenic route that uses paved side roads, in Lower Michigan, from one light to the next following the shoreline. For the lights that may be offshore, contact persons are listed to help you visit those lights too.
In the center of the book are pages filled with color photographs that features breathe taking views of many different lighthouses. At the beginning and the end of the color section are journal pages to document your visits to each light.
In the rear pages of the book is an index to quickly find the topic of choice.
As you can see, this book is truly an “ultimate” guide to the lights of Michigan’s shoreline.
