Author, speaker and personal safety expert Pete Canavan has been studying the martial arts for over 20 years. He has trained hundreds of men, women and children of all ages in self-defense. Pete is also an IT consultant who has been keeping his clients' systems, networks and accounts safe since 1995. He has worked as a university public safety professional and is familiar with many of the safety challenges facing today's K-12 and college students. Pete is an Act 235 Lethal Weapons Certified Agent, and is also certified in First Aid, CPR, AED and naloxone use.
He teaches regular classes in the Korean martial arts of Hapkido and Taekwondo 3 days a week to both children and adults. Master Pete also teaches self-defense seminars for various groups including but not limited to executives, public safety departments, corrections officers, bartenders/wait staff, neighborhood watch groups, realtors, and the elderly in addition to his regular classes.
Pete is passionate about personal safety, and works every day keeping his clients' technology secure and his students physical safety intact. He does this through education, training, implementation and on-going research and information sharing.
Master Pete is proficient with many weapons including those used in law enforcement such as the PR-24 control baton, monadnock expandable baton, defensive flashlight, and kubotan. He is also proficient with the Bo (6') and Jo (4') staff, Kumdo sword, Tonfa, Sai, Nunchaku, Three-Section Staff, Cane, Knife, Escrima fighting sticks, Kama, Butterfly swords and traditional Samurai sword.
Pete resides in Pennsylvania with his wife, Susan and their 3 sons.
